The Union of South American Nations (USAN; Spanish: Uni??n de Naciones Suramericanas, UNASUR; Portuguese: Uni??o de Na????es Sul-Americanas, UNASUL; Dutch: Unie van Zuid-Amerikaanse Naties, UZAN; French: Union des nations sud-am??ricaines, UNASUR) and sometimes referred to as the South American Union) is an intergovernmental regional organization set up by Hugo Chavez to counteract the influence of the United States in the region.
