Sibiu (/si????bju??/ see-BEW, Romanian: [si??biw], German: Hermannstadt [??h????man??tat], Latin: Cibinium, Transylvanian Saxon: H??rmeschtat, Hungarian: Nagyszeben [??n??t??s????b??n]) is a city in Romania, in the historical region of Transylvania. Located some 275 km (171 mi) north-west of Bucharest, the city straddles the Cibin River, a tributary of the river Olt. Now the capital of the Sibiu County, between 1692 and 1791 and 1849???65 Sibiu was also the capital of the Principality of Transylvania.
